Oark Hornets Destany Fields and Mason Guinnip have been named the #StudentAthletesOfTheWeek by Arkansas Valley Electric and Wave Rural Connect.

Destany, a senior guard for the Lady Hornets, has attended Oark since kindergarten and takes great pride in representing her school. She continued, "We just feel like a big family here, and it felt good to show Oark that we could win more games than we had in the past." 

Destany's senior season was made extra special as she got to play alongside her sister, a sophomore on the team. "It was fun," she shared. "Of course, she was trying to show me up, but I got to show her up sometimes too." She attributes her team's achievements to a dedicated coach and their strong teamwork.

With graduation quickly approaching, Destany aspires to attend college and become a teacher. 

Mason, a junior post for the Hornets, plays mostly as a post player but occasionally switches it up as a guard, and this versatility on the court has been helpful for his team.

He explained that coming from Deer last year, he was determined to beat his former team this season, and his team did just that. 

"We are going to work hard to get ready for next year. I have two major goals: learning to dunk and making it to regionals."
